About the event

The Scarborough Bluffs West Revitalization Study has opportunities for placemaking and place keeping that address the needs and values of Indigenous Communities surrounding the GTA. The study is currently developing a Terms of Reference as a first phase of an Individual Environmental Assessment process, which will provide a roadmap for what environmental effects are to be examined, consultation to be undertaken, and the problems and opportunities to be addressed within the study area. The purpose of this engagement session is to gain knowledge. Clarity on subject matters will be achieved through a reciprocal exchange of information through traditional Talking Circles to share insights that will inform the shoreline’s revitalization.

The engagement session will begin with an opening ceremony provided by Knowledge Keeper Vivian Roy to share teachings on the significance of the Scarborough Bluffs and surrounding territories, giving all a chance to seek clarifications and deeper understanding. This will be followed by a Nibi (Water) Walking Ceremony, a guided walk along the shoreline emphasizing the importance of water in Indigenous culture, reflecting on the connection between water, land, and community. This will proceed into an Indigenous-led Talking Circle Engagement Session allowing for open dialogue and sharing of thoughts, feelings, and experiences related to the project themes and objectives before the closing ceremony. The session will have food and breaks, and honoraria will be provided.
